One of my roles on the Council is to sit on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee. We recently reviewed a decision on Air Quality, which led to understanding more about how air monitoring is done in the Borough and how zones are reviewed when targets are met (and pollution is reduced).
One of the initiatives that we heard about during the session was the work being done with Primary Schools (where children often live closer to their schools) to encourage awareness of walking to school and turning off engines to avoid pollution around the school.
The Pollution Patrol is a great set of resources that can be used by schools or parents - do take a look and see what we can all do to improve air quality where we live.
Finally, if there is an area near you that you think would benefit from air quality monitoring, do let us know. As Cllrs we can request that an area where pollution may be an issue or has increased to be monitored.
